House #1

CASA NELLA VIGNA: (“Cottage in the Vineyard”)

In 1998, we bought a hilltop property with a spectacular view and located at the end of a quiet private lane.

There were 4,000sq. meters of old vineyard and a sturdy little, brick barn. The barn exterior has not changed very much since then, but inside the brick shell we built a completely new vacation home, designed to be comfortable and easy to maintain. Entering from the gated courtyard, the GROUND LEVEL(50sq.mt/150sq.ft) has an open floor plan divided into “living”, dining and cooking areas, and a half bath. Double doors open onto a panoramic patio and garden. UPSTAIRS(50sq.mt/150sq.ft), we divided the old corn loft into two bedrooms (each with two twin beds which can be connected as one) and a full bath .

A third, LOFT LEVEL adds another 40sq.mt/120sq.ft of space for more sleep, work or play zone. The bedrooms are placed to catch the summer
breezes and the grand panorama. They open onto a balcony from which you can see the countryside for more than fifty kilometers around.
On clear days, the Alpine peaks Monviso and Monta Rosa provide backdrop for the view.

The house is furnished in comfortable, classic style, and is equipt with stove/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer, kitchen basics, linens,
tub/shower, a fixed phone line, TV with international decoder, VCR and a selection of childrens videos, books in English, library of local
information, and outside; garden furniture, barbeque, swing and playhouse.

Rental rates :One month’s stay = 1000euro + utilities, 2 weeks=700euro+ utilities

THE VILLAGE OF SAN MARTINO ALFIERI:

Casa nella Vigna stands at the highest point of the pretty castle village of San Martino Alfieri. Located halfway (15km) between the historic and gastronomic centers of Asti and Alba, it is on the border where the Monferrato meets the Langhe and Roero regions. The village of 600 residents, provides essential services: bank, post, market, church, town hall, weekly doctor and pharmacy, hairdresser, café, trattoria, nursery school, feed store, and an excellent pizzeria.
Most other needs can be met in the larger town (5km) of San Damiano. The magnificent, baroque castle in San Martino’s center is home to the prestigious Marchesi Alfieri wine estate and vineyard.
Most of the surrounding lands are cultivated in Barbera grapes—as they have been since the Middle Ages—producing some of the most important of Italy’s red wines.
